The Federal Government, in collaboration with the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), has initiated legal proceedings against individuals implicated in various electoral offenses during the 2023 general elections. Following the presidential and National Assembly elections held on February 25, 2023, over 700 offenders were apprehended by the Nigeria Police Force for violating electoral laws. Out of this number, 215 individuals were handed over to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for prosecution.

INEC, in partnership with the NBA, has taken proactive steps to prosecute electoral offenders, with 196 cases currently being addressed. These cases encompass a wide range of offenses, including vote-buying, arms possession, destruction of electoral materials, and electoral violence.

The prosecution is being conducted in magistrates’ courts and high courts across states and the Federal Capital Territory, ensuring that offenders are held accountable for their actions in accordance with the Electoral Act.

  • Prior to this mission, Nnebeife successfully supervised a rescue operation in Kwara State’s Babasango Forest that secured the freedom of two kidnap victims.
