The adoption of a southern candidate aligns with the prevailing political trend in the state, as emphasized by Peretei. He emphasized the importance of adhering to this trend, suggesting that deviating from it would be ill-advised. Despite acknowledging that the party’s constitution does not explicitly mandate zoning, Peretei stressed the necessity of aligning with the prevailing sentiment within the electorate.

Peretei highlighted the strategic rationale behind the decision by noting the existing gubernatorial representation from the southern zone within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). He argued that it is pragmatically sound for the PDP to field a candidate from the southern region in response to this political landscape.

By aligning with prevailing political sentiments and strategically responding to the regional dynamics, the party aims to enhance its electoral prospects and strengthen its position in the upcoming elections.
