During a gathering in Abuja, candidates from various states stressed the importance of adapting to modern demands and challenges to ensure the party remains relevant and effective in Nigerian politics.
A joint statement issued on Monday emphasized the urgent need for party congresses to be organized at all levels.
The statement, endorsed by eight candidates representing diverse states including Udengs Eradiri (Bayelsa), Ken Pela (Delta), Beatrice Itubo (Rivers), Chijioke Edeoga (Enugu), Adedjo Desmond Okeme (Kogi), Keftin Esau Amuga (Gombe), Joseph Ewuga (Nassarawa), and Jonathan Asake (Kaduna), highlighted the pivotal role of these congresses in reshaping and repositioning the Labour Party for the 2027 polls.
Additionally, the forum criticized the divisive actions of certain factions within the party, particularly the Lamidi Apapa group, and addressed internal challenges.
The statement emphasized, “The Forum urgently calls for the swift and immediate organization of party congresses at all levels. This step is crucial for the complete restructuring and repositioning of the Labour Party towards the 2027 elections, aligning it with contemporary requirements and challenges.
“We stress the paramount importance of this initiative in revitalizing our party and ensuring its continued status as a potent force for positive transformation in Nigeria.
“We express our firm disapproval of the divisive maneuvers of these factions, which only serve to undermine the unity and advancement of our party. We urge all members to throw their support behind the party leadership and to reject any efforts to sow discord. We also caution the media against granting undue attention to the unlawful actions of these factions and their members, which could tarnish the reputation and credibility of the Labour Party.”
The gubernatorial aspirants also voiced serious concerns about Nigeria’s current security situation and economic hardships, calling for immediate and concerted actions to address these pressing issues.
They urged the government to prioritize the safety and welfare of Nigerians, emphasizing the need for policies that promote economic development, social welfare, and national unity.

Ambassadorial Nomination Under Fire: Frank Tie Tie Exposes ‘Mistake’ Regarding Ex-FUOYE VC Fasina!.
Human rights lawyer Frank Tietie has criticized the nomination and subsequent confirmation of Professor Abayomi Fasina, the former Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, as a non-career ambassador designate.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
-
Prior to his confirmation, a coalition of civil society organizations protested at the National Assembly on July 7, 2026, opposing Fasina’s nomination due to pending court cases involving allegations of sexual harassment, human rights violations, and victimization.
-
Despite these protests, the Nigerian Senate officially confirmed Fasina’s appointment as a non-career ambassador on Thursday.
Frank Tietie’s Position
-
During an interview on ARISE Television, Tietie argued that nominating an individual with such “baggage” was a mistake, emphasizing that ambassadors represent Nigeria in the same capacity as the President.
-
Tietie stated that the government should have sent the “right signals” by avoiding such controversial appointments, especially given the current state of governance.
-
He argued that even in the absence of a final court judgment, the allegations themselves have “tainted” Fasina’s reputation, and the Senate should have delayed the confirmation until the legal matters were resolved.
-
Tietie also suggested that the National Assembly’s decision overlooks significant social changes regarding how such allegations are now viewed by society.
