Labour Party Warns NLC Against Sacking Abure-led NWC, Calls It Illegal....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The Labour Party (LP) has issued a stern warning to the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), cautioning against any attempt to remove the Julius Abure-led National Working Committee (NWC), asserting that the union lacks the authority to do so..…READ ASLO

In a statement signed by the National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, the LP denounced the stakeholders’ meeting convened by the NLC, labeling it as an illegal assembly comprising disgruntled former members and unrecognized individuals.

The LP accused the NLC’s Political Commission of being a front for Comrade Joe Ajaero, allegedly designed to further his political aspirations for 2027. The group was purportedly instructed by Ajaero to sow discord within the Labour Party by providing a platform for dissidents who recently lost a leadership battle in court.

The statement emphasized that the NLC’s Political Commission lacks legitimacy and the power to convene meetings or make decisions affecting a legally constituted party leadership.

The LP criticized the NLC’s alleged collusion with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to destabilize the opposition and pointed out the union’s failure to address workers’ rights issues amid harsh economic conditions.

Addressing Ajaero, the LP urged him to prioritize his responsibilities as NLC President and address the challenges facing Nigerian workers instead of pursuing political ambitions.

The party reiterated its support for the Abure-led NWC, highlighting its achievements in the 2023 general elections and its contributions to Nigeria’s political landscape.

The LP concluded by expressing readiness to seek legal recourse if necessary and called on its supporters to remain calm, assuring them that justice will prevail.

The response from the Labour Party comes in response to the NLC’s resolution to void the national convention that reinstated Abure and his NWC members. The NLC also announced plans to set up a transition committee pending the election of new officers.

Additionally, the NLC raised concerns about the need for a forensic audit of the LP’s bank accounts following allegations of corruption and fraud.

Ambassadorial Nomination Under Fire: Frank Tie Tie Exposes ‘Mistake’ Regarding Ex-FUOYE VC Fasina!.

Human rights lawyer Frank Tietie has criticized the nomination and subsequent confirmation of Professor Abayomi Fasina, the former Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, as a non-career ambassador designate.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

  • Prior to his confirmation, a coalition of civil society organizations protested at the National Assembly on July 7, 2026, opposing Fasina’s nomination due to pending court cases involving allegations of sexual harassment, human rights violations, and victimization.

  • Despite these protests, the Nigerian Senate officially confirmed Fasina’s appointment as a non-career ambassador on Thursday.

Frank Tietie’s Position

  • During an interview on ARISE Television, Tietie argued that nominating an individual with such “baggage” was a mistake, emphasizing that ambassadors represent Nigeria in the same capacity as the President.

  • Tietie stated that the government should have sent the “right signals” by avoiding such controversial appointments, especially given the current state of governance.

  • He argued that even in the absence of a final court judgment, the allegations themselves have “tainted” Fasina’s reputation, and the Senate should have delayed the confirmation until the legal matters were resolved.

  • Tietie also suggested that the National Assembly’s decision overlooks significant social changes regarding how such allegations are now viewed by society.
