Just In: Court Of Appeal Sets Date For Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s Election Nullification Appeal....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The Court of Appeal, situated in Abuja, has scheduled Monday, November 6, 2023, as the date for the hearing of the appeal filed by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, who is challenging the nullification of his election by the Kano State Election Petition Tribunal.

The notice for this case, bearing the reference number CA/KN/EP/GOV/KAN/34/2023, has been fixed for a hearing, providing ample time for legal representatives of all involved parties to prepare for this legal battle.

Key parties in this lawsuit include Governor Yusuf and his political party, the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), as well as the opposing All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

On September 20, 2023, the tribunal invalidated Governor Yusuf’s election, asserting that 165,663 of his votes were invalid due to a lack of INEC stamps or signatures. Initially, INEC had declared him the winner of the March 18 election, where he secured 1,019,602 votes in contrast to his opponent, Nasiru Gawuna, who obtained 890,705 votes.

However, following the tribunal’s deduction of the 165,663 votes from Governor Yusuf’s total, his vote count was reduced to 853,939, which was over 30,000 votes less than Gawuna’s tally. Consequently, the court declared the APC candidate as the victor of the gubernatorial election and directed INEC to revoke Governor Yusuf’s certificate of return and issue a new one to Gawuna.

In response, Governor Yusuf and the NNPP have lodged an appeal against the tribunal’s verdict, seeking a reversal of the decision in their favor.

ADC chieftain and publisher, Dele Momodu, has dismissed calls for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to withdraw from the 2027 presidential race, describing the push as unfair and politically motivated.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Momodu was reacting to comments by activist Zekeri Idris Jnr, a supporter of Peter Obi, who urged Atiku to step aside over concerns about his age, which would be about 80 by 2027.

In a post on his X handle on Saturday, Momodu said attention should be focused on holding the government accountable rather than targeting Atiku’s political ambition.

The exchange followed a viral video where Idris insisted that Atiku should support younger aspirants instead of contesting, arguing that voters would not back an elderly candidate.

Idris also suggested that Atiku should act as a statesman and support younger politicians such as Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and others.

Responding, Momodu cited several world leaders who held office at advanced ages, arguing that experience should not be dismissed in leadership discussions.

He questioned what should disqualify Atiku from contesting, insisting that age alone is not a valid reason.

Atiku, who lost the 2023 presidential election to President Bola Tinubu, is reportedly considering another run in 2027 under the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
