Soludo Didn’t Win Fairly – LP Candidate Moghalu Alleges Rampant Vote-Buying.
The Labour Party candidate in the recently concluded Anambra State governorship election, George Moghalu, has attributed his defeat in his polling unit to rampant vote-buying allegedly carried out by some candidates.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
According to Nivo News, Moghalu was defeated by the incumbent governor, Charles Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), who secured 57 votes against Moghalu’s 22 votes.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, the Labour Party candidate disclosed that he deliberately refused to participate in vote-buying despite the practice being widespread. He lamented that most voters were swayed by money due to their economic hardship.
In his words, “I couldn’t afford how much was being paid. I refused to pay, I refused to get involved in vote-buying. They had too much money to buy votes, and what do you expect my people to do? Many of them are poor.”
Moghalu further accused the ruling party, APGA, of spearheading the vote-buying scheme, claiming that several of its agents arrested for electoral malpractice were caught wearing party identification tags.
He added, “Some of them were seen purchasing votes. There’s even a commissioner who was caught on camera buying votes in my constituency.”
Moghalu maintained that the election outcome did not reflect the true will of the people, insisting that he would have emerged victorious if the process had been free and fair, devoid of financial inducement.
Governor Charles Soludo was eventually declared winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), securing a landslide victory across all 21 local government areas of the state and earning a second term in office.
