The Lagos State Government has disbursed a total of N2.017 billion in retirement benefits to 644 retirees during the 101st batch Retirement Bond Certificate presentation held in Alausa, Ikeja.
Mr. Babalola Obilana, the Director-General of the Lagos State Pension Commission (LASPEC), highlighted that this payment represents the retirement benefits accrued to the retirees for their past service prior to the commencement of the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) in 2007.

Obilana underscored the significance of the event, which aimed to celebrate the remarkable achievements and dedication of retirees who had invested their time, effort, and talents in the service of Lagos State. He emphasized that the retirement bond certificates symbolize the trust and confidence the government has in its retirees, acknowledging their substantial contributions in shaping Lagos State into the esteemed “Centre of Excellence” it is today.
He further stated, “These retirement bond certificates symbolize more than just financial rewards; they represent the trust and confidence we have in our retirees. They are a testament to the lasting impact you have made just as your dedication has been the bedrock of the goal of a greater Lagos State.”
Mr. Olawale Musa, Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Ministry of Establishments, Training, and Pensions, praised Governor Sanwo-Olu for his commitment to the welfare of the public service workforce, even in retirement. Musa encouraged the retirees to exercise prudence in managing their funds and make thoughtful decisions regarding investment options. He also urged them to reach out to LASPEC or the ministry for any pension-related inquiries or clarifications.
Musa concluded by applauding the retirees for their extraordinary contributions and unwavering commitment to the progress of Lagos State, extending his wishes for their retirement years to be filled with happiness, fulfillment, and new experiences.
