Highlighting the global prevalence of FGM, Mrs. Tinubu stressed Nigeria’s significant role in achieving the global goal of ending FGM by 2030, as the country ranks third highest in FGM burden worldwide.

Enumerating the physical, emotional, and psychological harm caused by FGM, Mrs. Tinubu underscored the necessity to intensify advocacy efforts and collaborative initiatives to eliminate this harmful practice.

Mrs. Tinubu advocated for collaborative efforts involving governors’ wives, stakeholders, and various organizations to address FGM effectively. She emphasized the importance of education, empowerment of survivors, enforcement of existing laws, and fostering partnerships to combat gender-based violence and FGM.

Echoing Mrs. Tinubu’s sentiments, Vice President Kashim Shettima, represented by Mrs. Uju Rochas-Anwulah, emphasized the importance of grassroots involvement in addressing the issue. He underscored the need for cultural adaptation to achieve the desired change and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to providing healthcare facilities for FGM survivors.
