Obasanjo emphasized that Williams was not just an icon but an exceptional example of a human being, recognized both nationally and globally for his accounting expertise.
Reflecting on his personal interactions with the deceased, Obasanjo noted that Williams’ calm and composed demeanor, as well as his unwavering commitment to truth and accountability, were qualities that left a lasting impression. He admired Williams’ ability to remain composed and methodical, which was attributed to his strong internal sense of control.
He went on to mention that his own encounters with Mr. Akintola Williams were somewhat indirect due to various circumstances. When military personnel like himself were stationed in provinces such as Kaduna and later arrived in Lagos in the mid-1960s, they looked up to figures like Mr. Akintola Williams with great admiration and respect from a distance.
Obasanjo concluded by offering his prayers for the late Akintola Williams, hoping for his peaceful rest and extending his condolences to the family, wishing them the strength to cope with their profound and irreplaceable loss.
