“Tinubu-Sanwo-Olu Rift? Lagos Govt Breaks Silence”.

Published

on

The Lagos State Government has dismissed reports of a rift between Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and President Bola Tinubu, calling the claims baseless speculation. The clarification was made by Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, during an interview on Channels Television’s Morning Brief, affirming that the relationship between the two leaders remains cordial.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Omotoso said that rumours of a strained relationship were purely imaginary and had no factual basis.

“How will a father say there is no future in his home? The President is like a father to Mr Sanwo-Olu. Most of what you hear are mere speculations,” he said.

The commissioner emphasized that the president has not expressed any dissatisfaction with the Lagos governor.

“The President has not indicated displeasure with Mr Sanwo-Olu. If he were unhappy, he would not request to visit Lagos to see the projects he envisioned,” Omotoso added.

He also noted that Tinubu’s visits to Lagos reflect a strong working relationship with the state government.

“While the President has the authority to visit any part of the country, he would not choose to visit a state where he is unhappy with the leadership,” he said.

Addressing speculation about political succession in Lagos, with Sanwo-Olu’s second term ending on May 29, 2027, Omotoso stated that no formal discussions have taken place.

“That matter has not been discussed as far as I am concerned. Social media rumours aside, the question of succession will be addressed in due course,” he said.

Omotoso also defended the ₦279 billion cost of the Ojota–Opebi Link Bridge built by the Sanwo-Olu administration, highlighting the scale and complexity of the project.

“Have you seen the bridge? It stretches 5.04 kilometres with roads, including 2.80 kilometres on the bridge, 146 metres of adjoining roads, and four underpasses. Such a project naturally comes with a significant cost,” he explained.
