Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Akwa Ibom State Governor Pastor Umo Eno on Friday formally received Emmanuel Enoidem, former National Legal Adviser of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), into the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Enoidem was welcomed during a political rally held in Utu Etim Ekpo, Etim Ekpo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.

Speaking at the event, Senator Akpabio likened Enoidem’s defection to the Biblical story of a shepherd leaving 99 sheep to find the one that had gone astray. He also recalled that Enoidem had previously served as a commissioner during Akpabio’s tenure as governor.

He commended Governor Umo Eno for facilitating Enoidem’s return to the APC, noting that the move would foster peace and unity ahead of future elections in the state. Akpabio expressed confidence that the defection would pave the way for smooth electioneering not only in Akwa Ibom North-West Senatorial District but across the entire state, and that the APC was poised for an easy victory in the 2027 general elections.

“This rally feels like reconnecting with one of my political mentees. I am delighted to receive Enoidem into the APC,” Akpabio said, adding that the event symbolizes the return of peace to Akwa Ibom State, which he stressed is essential for development.

Recalling the 2023 elections, Akpabio thanked the people of Etim Ekpo for their support despite Enoidem contesting against him at the time, noting that with Enoidem now back in the party, the state can anticipate rancour-free elections in 2027.

During the rally, the crowd openly expressed support for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Umo Eno, and Senator Akpabio.

Governor Umo Eno, in his remarks, acknowledged Enoidem’s role in his emergence as governor and thanked him for joining the APC, describing the move as being in the overall interest of Akwa Ibom State. The governor revealed that even while Enoidem was still in the PDP, he had pledged support for his re-election and that of Senator Akpabio, but later agreed that joining the APC would better serve the state’s interest.

Enoidem, for his part, said his decision to leave the PDP was guided by the political realities in the state, noting that the majority of Akwa Ibom residents now align with the ruling party and that remaining in the opposition would not benefit the state.

The rally was attended by numerous political stakeholders, including members of the National Assembly, the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas) Obongemem Ekperikpe Ekpo, members of the State House of Assembly, State Executive Council members, local government chairmen, party leaders, and traditional and religious leaders.
