Six individuals suffered varying injuries in a petroleum tanker explosion that occurred yesterday at Sandaji Filling Station in Lafia, Nasarawa State. The incident transpired when the tanker, which had delivered petroleum products to the filling station on Jos Road in Lafia, erupted in flames around noon.
According to Comfort Igwe, a pump attendant at the station, the explosion took place during the process of offloading the tanker’s cargo. Responding to the emergency, the fire service, in collaboration with the Red Cross Society, police, and other security agencies, successfully extinguished the fire and restored normalcy to the area.
The explosion also caused substantial damage to property valued at millions of naira at the filling station, as reported by an eyewitness. Several staff members of the filling station and Nasarawa State Fire Service officials sustained injuries and are currently undergoing treatment at the Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital in Lafia.
Mr. Ombugu Joshua, the Acting Director of Nasarawa State Fire Service, stated that the cause of the outbreak had not been determined as of yet. He urged residents to promptly inform the service in the event of a fire outbreak to ensure a swift response.
