NNPP Will Win Kano In 2027 With Or Without Gov Yusuf — Ladipo Johnson.
The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has expressed confidence that it will secure victory in the 2027 Kano State governorship election, even if Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf defects to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Speculation has intensified in recent weeks over the governor’s possible defection, particularly following his recent visit to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which reignited political debates across the state.
Speaking on Tuesday, NNPP chieftain Ladipo Johnson said the party was not worried by the alleged plans, insisting that the NNPP enjoys strong grassroots support across Kano.
Johnson recalled that in 2019, the party believed it won the governorship election despite having no sitting governor or members of the House of Assembly at the time, adding that the outcome was later overturned after the poll was declared inconclusive.
He noted that a similar situation played out in 2023, when the NNPP defeated the APC despite lacking the advantage of incumbency.
According to him, the party won the governorship election and secured the majority of elective seats in the state without holding positions at the local or legislative levels.
Johnson expressed confidence that the NNPP would repeat the feat in the next election cycle, regardless of Governor Yusuf’s political future.
He said the party was certain of victory in 2027 whether the governor remains in the NNPP or aligns with another political platform.
On Monday, Governor Yusuf paid a visit to President Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, a development that renewed claims he may be preparing to leave the NNPP for the APC.
However, the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature, dismissed the speculation, stating that the meeting was purely official.
According to him, Governor Yusuf briefed the president on the recent killing of a housewife and her children in Kano, while also stressing the need for stronger federal support to enhance security operations and protect innocent citizens.
Governor Yusuf won the 2023 Kano governorship election on the platform of the NNPP, defeating the APC candidate, Yusuf Gawuna.
