Tinubu Rolls Out Massive Housing Project for Judges as Wike Unveils Fresh Judicial Reforms.

Speaking during a special court session to open the 2025/2026 Legal Year of the Court of Appeal in Abuja, Wike announced that the Federal Government has approved the construction of additional residential buildings for FCT High Court judges. He explained that the initiative aims to address accommodation challenges and ensure judicial officers have suitable living conditions.
Wike, through a statement issued by his spokesman, Lere Olayinka, explained that the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has already handed over the Certificate of Occupancy for the Supreme Court’s land and commenced full perimeter fencing of the complex. He said this development is part of the President’s decisive steps to protect the apex court from encroachment and boost its security.
He noted that the intervention marks the first of its kind in many years, adding that it provides renewed confidence within the judiciary, with the impact expected to cascade across all its arms.
The minister further highlighted ongoing projects under the President’s directives, including secure residential quarters for Heads of Courts in the FCT and the construction of a new Magistrate Court Complex in Jabi District, aimed at improving access to justice and easing pressure on current court facilities.
Wike stressed that these efforts were crafted to enhance the working conditions of judicial officers. He added that the President believes comfortable and safe accommodations enable judges to focus fully on delivering timely and effective justice without the distractions that come from inadequate housing.
Reaffirming the FCTA’s commitment to justice sector reforms, Wike said the administration is determined to consolidate previous gains as the new Legal Year begins. He disclosed that emphasis will be placed on the swift completion of ongoing judicial housing projects and the Jabi Magistrate Court Complex.
He added that budgetary allocations have also been made for additional residential housing for FCT High Court judges, while collaboration with FCT-based courts will continue, especially in digitising court processes to boost efficiency and reduce delays in the justice system.
