Oyo Traditional Rulers Throw Support Behind Ladoja As Council Chairman.
The Olugbon of Orile-Igbon, Oba Francis Alao, has assured Governor Seyi Makinde that the Oyo State Council of Obas and Chiefs stands fully behind its newly inaugurated chairman, Rashidi Ladoja.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Alao made the pledge in a statement on Sunday following Makinde’s visit to his palace in Orile-Igbon, Surulere Local Government Area, on Friday. He thanked the governor for the visit and confirmed that council members across all five zones of the state—Ibadan, Oyo, Ogbomoso, Oke-Ogun, and Ibarapa—support the new leadership.
Governor Makinde had inaugurated the council on Thursday after a 15-year hiatus, with Oba Ladoja, the Olubadan of Ibadan, emerging as chairman. However, the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade, was absent from the ceremony at the House of Chiefs, Parliament Building, Ibadan.
Makinde had stated that the chairmanship would rotate among the Olubadan, Alaafin, and Soun of Ogbomoso, based on a supposed agreement with the three monarchs. But the Alaafin’s media aide, Bode Durojaye, refuted the claim, insisting no such meeting took place.
During the palace visit, Olugbon Alao, who is also the council’s deputy chairman, emphasized unity within the council. “We are united across the five zones. The council has a new chairman, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, and we are all one,” he said.
Alao further encouraged traditional rulers to adapt to modern governance, noting that historic empires have given way to new systems of power. “The world is dynamic. In Nigeria, the system is not monarchy. Traditional rulers must cooperate with the government to promote good governance, security, and peaceful coexistence,” he stated.
Other traditional rulers present included the Aresapa of Iresa-Pupa, Aranyin of Iranyin, Olujado of Ijado, and Iba Abogunde Tajudeen Aminullahi.
