According to Nivo News, the world’s 11 largest oil refineries — ranked by capacity and listed chronologically — highlight humanity’s evolving technological prowess and economic ambition.

The Port Arthur Refinery in Texas, United States, established in 1903 and rebuilt in 2002, is one of the oldest and most productive refineries, processing around 600,000 barrels per day (bpd) under Motiva Enterprises.

Also in the U.S., ExxonMobil’s Baton Rouge Refinery in Louisiana, launched in 1909 and expanded in 2023, refines 520,000 bpd, remaining a crucial pillar of North America’s energy infrastructure.

The Galveston Bay Refinery, owned by Marathon Petroleum Corporation, was built in 1931 and now handles 631,000 bpd. Its 2019 expansion enhanced efficiency and sustainability, making it a top global supplier.

In the Middle East, Saudi Aramco’s Ras Tanura Refinery, operational since 1945, processes 550,000 bpd and stands as a cornerstone of global energy exports.

Venezuela’s Paraguaná Refining Complex, established in the 1950s and operated by PDVSA, combines three major facilities — Amuay, Cardón, and Bajo Grande — with a total refining capacity of 940,000 bpd, making it one of the largest in the Western Hemisphere.

Asia dominates the list with South Korea’s refining giants. SK Energy’s Ulsan Refinery, commissioned in 1964, produces 850,000 bpd, while GS Caltex’s Yeosu Refinery, opened in 1969 and expanded in 2021, refines 840,000 bpd using advanced eco-friendly systems. S-Oil Corporation’s Onsan Refinery, active since 1979, refines 669,000 bpd and is known for ultra-clean fuel production.

The Ruwais Refinery in the United Arab Emirates, run by ADNOC, began operations in 1982 and, after its 2015 expansion, reached a capacity of 827,000 bpd, positioning it as a key player in the Middle East’s downstream operations.

Rounding off the list is Africa’s pride, the Dangote Refinery in Nigeria, commissioned in 2023. Owned by Dangote Industries Limited, the refinery boasts a capacity of 650,000 bpd, positioning Nigeria as a self-sufficient producer and potential petroleum export hub across the continent.

Pastor Egbaji, a Nigerian cleric, was said to have endured harsh treatment during his detention, including prolonged confinement. His release followed a presidential pardon granted by the authorities in Benin Republic under President Patrice Talon.

Speaking on News Central TV, Dr. Kehinde praised the diplomatic efforts that led to the cleric’s freedom, describing the process as lengthy and challenging. He noted that significant progress was achieved after Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu was appointed Minister of State for Foreign Affairs.

Recruitment Drama: 360,923 Candidates Fail Paramilitary Selection Process.

The Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire, and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB) has provided an update on its ongoing nationwide recruitment exercise.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The board stated that 1,120,491 applications were successfully completed and processed, allowing candidates to proceed to the computer-based test (CBT) stage.

It also disclosed that 432,935 applications were left incomplete, while 360,923 applicants were disqualified during screening and shortlisting for failing to meet the required criteria.

In total, the recruitment exercise recorded over 1.8 million applications across the country.

The exercise covers agencies under the board, including the Nigeria Immigration Service, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Federal Fire Service, and the Nigeria Correctional Service.

CDCFIB also released a breakdown of CBT performance, showing that 221,996 candidates scored between 0–40, 229,155 scored between 41–60, 278,543 scored between 61–80, while 142,697 scored between 81–100.

The recruitment process is now expected to move to the next stage, which includes physical screening and document verification. Shortlisted candidates will be contacted with details of their screening venues, dates, and required documents.

The board reiterated that the entire process is free of charge and advised applicants to rely only on official communication channels for updates, warning against misinformation and unauthorized messages circulating online.
