The President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Patrice Motsepe, has disclosed that Grammy-winning Nigerian singer Burna Boy experienced an unexpected delay at a Moroccan airport while en route to headline a major Africa Cup of Nations event.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Motsepe explained at a recent press briefing that the delay occurred when customs officials flagged Burna Boy’s heavy gold jewellery. The issue was quickly resolved after Motsepe personally intervened.
He said, “I was recently called to intervene because Burna Boy had been stopped at the airport after customs officers noticed his heavy and beautiful gold jewellery. I stepped in, and the matter was promptly resolved.”
Despite the hiccup, Burna Boy went on to headline the TotalEnergies AFCON Fan Zone concert in Rabat on January 16, delivering a high-energy performance that thrilled fans. The show also featured Ghanaian star Stonebwoy and Moroccan artists Stormy and Jaylann.
In other AFCON news, Nigeria’s Stanley Nwabali emerged as an unlikely hero on Saturday, January 17, as the Super Eagles defeated Egypt on penalties to claim the bronze medal at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
After over 95 minutes of goalless action marked by near misses and VAR drama, Nwabali’s two crucial saves in the penalty shootout secured Nigeria’s victory, giving the team a well-earned podium finish.
The tournament final will take place today between Senegal and hosts Morocco.
