The President’s commendation came after Nigeria’s hard-earned victory over Egypt in Saturday’s third-place playoff.

Tinubu praised the national team for quickly overcoming the setback of their semi-final loss to host nation Morocco last Wednesday, where the Super Eagles were eliminated via a penalty shootout.

Despite the disappointment, the team regrouped and produced a spirited display in the third-place match.

Nigeria stood firm against Egypt, a seven-time AFCON champion, before clinching victory through penalties after regulation time ended goalless.

The Super Eagles dominated large portions of the encounter, displaying confidence, discipline and composure against one of Africa’s most decorated teams.

In a statement, President Tinubu said the players once again exemplified the determination, perseverance and can-do spirit synonymous with Nigeria.

“Despite their impressive run in the tournament, the Eagles suffered a painful semi-final defeat to Morocco on penalties, which dashed the hopes of many Nigerians,” Tinubu said.

“However, the players were not discouraged. True to the resilient Nigerian spirit, their determination has now been rewarded.”

“Thank you, our gallant Super Eagles. Thank you, our national team players. This bronze medal truly feels like gold.”

Nigeria’s podium finish further adds to the country’s storied AFCON legacy and renews optimism for future continental success.
