‘Not The Right Time’ – Kwankwaso Eyes APC Switch.
Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, national leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), has expressed interest in joining the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), but stressed that any move would be approached with caution.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Speaking to NNPP supporters from Rano and Dawakin Tofa local government areas who visited him at his residence in Kano on Thursday, the former Kano State governor said his hesitation is informed by past political experiences and the need to protect his supporters and political structure in the state.
“I didn’t say I won’t join the APC, but we must first have clear assurances about the future of the Kano State government before making any move,” Kwankwaso said.
He raised concerns about the fate of NNPP lawmakers and supporters in the event of a defection without guarantees.
“What will happen to our lawmakers and supporters if we defect without clear plans? I will not join the APC blindly. I need to know my role, the direction of the journey, and the impact on our programs for the people,” he added.
Kwankwaso also clarified that his stance on a possible defection by Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has been misunderstood, emphasizing that his priority is to retain leverage in negotiations with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the APC leadership.
Recalling past political alliances, he noted that his camp played a key role in the formation of the Muhammadu Buhari-led government but was later sidelined.
“Without written assurances, leaving the NNPP now would be premature and risky,” Kwankwaso said, adding that no formal guarantees have been offered to safeguard the interests of the Kwankwasiyya movement or ensure fair treatment for its members in any new political arrangement.
