‘It’s Brotherhood, Not Tactics’ — Iwobi Explains Nigeria’s AFCON Magic.
According to Nivo News, Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi has attributed Nigeria’s impressive run at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations to strong unity and brotherhood within the team, rather than tactics or individual brilliance alone.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Iwobi spoke ahead of Nigeria’s highly anticipated semi-final clash against host nation Morocco at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat, describing the atmosphere within the squad as the key factor driving their flawless performance at the tournament.
The Super Eagles have emerged as the standout team of the competition, winning all five of their matches, scoring a tournament-high 14 goals and conceding only four. The current campaign has already gone down as Nigeria’s most prolific AFCON outing, surpassing the 12 goals recorded at the 2000 edition.
Nigeria’s journey to the semi-finals has included victories over Tanzania, Tunisia, Uganda, Mozambique and Algeria, firmly establishing the team as strong contenders for the title.
Speaking during a pre-match media briefing, Iwobi explained that the team’s success is rooted in a shared sense of purpose and collective responsibility among the players.
He noted that the environment within the camp encourages unity, care for one another and a common determination to succeed on the pitch, a spirit he believes is clearly reflected in Nigeria’s performances.
Iwobi, who has played a pivotal role in Nigeria’s midfield dominance, has earned praise for his composure, intelligence and influence in controlling games, often initiating key attacking moves.
The Fulham midfielder added that the foundations of the current success were laid during the previous AFCON, when a youthful Nigerian side reached the final and gained valuable experience.
He explained that many of the players have since matured, entered their prime and are now delivering consistently strong performances for both club and country.
Iwobi also revealed that the disappointment of failing to qualify for the World Cup has served as extra motivation for the squad, pushing them to approach every match in Morocco with renewed hunger and determination.
Off the pitch, he disclosed that his decision to share behind-the-scenes moments from the camp through video diaries was aimed at showing the human side of the players and strengthening the bond within the team.
He further praised the coaching staff for fostering a family-like atmosphere, stressing that the sense of unity starts from the technical crew and extends throughout the squad.
According to Iwobi, the strong togetherness within the camp has translated into players fighting for one another on the field, bringing out the best in every member of the team.
Nigeria will take on Morocco on Wednesday evening for a place in Sunday’s final, while the second semi-final will feature Senegal against Egypt.
