Fresh Twist As Rivers Assembly Members Withdraw From Fubara Impeachment.
According to Nivo News, two members of the Rivers State House of Assembly have formally withdrawn from the ongoing impeachment process against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Professor Ngozi Odu.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The lawmakers are the Minority Leader of the Assembly, Sylvanus Nwankwo, who represents Omuma State Constituency, and Peter Abbey from Degema State Constituency. Both legislators urged their colleagues to embrace dialogue and pursue a peaceful resolution to the impeachment proceedings.
Speaking to journalists, Nwankwo and Abbey acknowledged that Governor Fubara may have breached certain provisions of the constitution but appealed to fellow lawmakers to regard such actions as human errors capable of being resolved amicably. They stressed the need for restraint in the interest of peace and stability in the state.
The lawmakers disclosed that they had received appeals from various stakeholders within and outside Rivers State, calling for reconciliation between the Assembly and the governor. According to them, these interventions influenced their decision to withdraw from the impeachment process and advocate a non-confrontational approach.
The Rivers State House of Assembly had commenced impeachment proceedings against Governor Fubara and his deputy last Thursday after the Assembly Leader, Major Jack, read allegations of gross misconduct reportedly endorsed by 26 lawmakers. The governor and his deputy were subsequently given seven days to respond to the allegations.
This marks the third time impeachment moves have been initiated against Fubara and Odu since they assumed office in 2023. Previous attempts in 2023 and 2025, linked to political tensions involving the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, were stalled following the intervention of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, before a state of emergency was declared in the state.
