Malaria Surge: Over 24 Million Nigerians Test Positive In Just Nine Months
No fewer than 24.47 million Nigerians tested positive for malaria between January and September 2025, According to Nivo News, reflecting a deepening public health challenge across the country. The figure is contained in the 2025 National Health Statistics Report released by the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The data indicates a consistent rise in the number of people presenting with fever and undergoing malaria testing through Rapid Diagnostic Tests and microscopy in the first, second, and third quarters of the year. Health analysts note that the surge paints a troubling picture of the malaria burden nationwide.
Nigeria, which already contributes a substantial share of global malaria cases, continues to battle persistent obstacles such as delayed access to treatment and gaps in healthcare infrastructure—factors that worsen the spread and impact of the disease. The upward trend also aligns with seasonal changes, as malaria cases typically spike during the rainy period when mosquito breeding activities intensify.
Statistics from the report show that from January to March, about 10,517,416 Nigerians were tested, while the number rose to 11,449,804 between April and June. By the third quarter, covering July to September, testing figures reached 12,878,508. This totals 34,845,728 people tested within the nine-month period.
Of those screened, 7,301,279 tested positive in the first quarter. From April to June, the number of confirmed cases climbed to 7,841,483. The third quarter recorded the sharpest increase, with 9,324,470 infections. Cumulatively, confirmed malaria cases for the first nine months of 2025 stood at 24,467,232.
The report further reveals that treatment numbers rose alongside the spike in infections. About 7,144,538 people received Artemisinin-based Combination Therapy in the first quarter, followed by 7,663,106 in the second quarter. Treatment figures peaked in the third quarter, with 9,043,786 individuals receiving ACT medication, bringing the total number of treated cases to approximately 23,851,430 during the period.
Speaking at the 2025 Joint Annual Review in Abuja, the Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Iziaq Salako, stated that the National Malaria Eradication Programme has recorded notable progress, even as the country continues to confront the growing threat of malaria.

Babachir Lawal Dumps ADC, Declares Total War On Atiku’s 2027 Ambition.
Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal, has alleged that specific Fulani factions are rejoicing over Atiku Abubakar’s presidential candidacy, viewing it as a path to securing the Nigerian presidency for their ethnic group. Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today following his departure from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Lawal leveled several criticisms against the former vice president.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Lawal defended his use of the term “Kachalla”—a title he associated with local leaders of bandit groups like that of Bello Turji—to describe Abubakar, explicitly questioning the former vice president’s Fulani identity and allegiances.
A central pillar of Lawal’s critique is that Abubakar has remained silent regarding rampant insecurity in Nigeria, particularly in the North and his home state of Adamawa. Lawal contended that the presidential hopeful has failed to publicly denounce kidnappings and mass killings, nor has he visited affected communities to offer condolences.
Furthermore, Lawal pointed to the 2022 murder of Deborah Samuel in Sokoto as a point of contention. He alleged that after initially condemning the incident, Abubakar retracted his statement, claiming it had been issued by an aide without authorization. Lawal argued that a leader seeking the highest office in the country should be willing to openly condemn violence and genocide, regardless of the circumstances.
