Leave Wike Alone: North-Central APC Defends FCT Minister.

Published

on

According to Nivo News, the North-Central All Progressives Congress (APC) Forum has strongly opposed calls for the resignation or removal of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, describing such demands as ill-intentioned and harmful to the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The Forum was reacting to recent remarks by the National Secretary of the APC, Senator Ajibola Basiru, who urged Wike to step down as FCT Minister and focus on political matters in Rivers State. In a statement issued on Monday by its Chairman, Saleh Zazzaga, the North-Central APC Forum said Wike has recorded notable achievements since assuming office and should be allowed to continue his work.

The group emphasized that the FCT is part of the North-Central region and warned that calls for Wike’s resignation could derail ongoing development projects and undermine the gains recorded under the Tinubu administration. It stressed that its primary concern is the development of the FCT and the wider North-Central region, not the political crisis in Rivers State.

The Forum stated that it has no intention of engaging party leaders calling for Wike’s removal but cautioned those behind the agitation to desist, particularly warning against organizing mass protests in the FCT. It argued that Wike’s performance within a short period contrasts sharply with the records of some past FCT ministers who spent several years in office with little to show.

According to the group, it is inappropriate for party leaders to demand Wike’s resignation on the basis of party affiliation, insisting that his contributions to infrastructure development in the FCT have added significant value to the Tinubu administration. The Forum concluded that those calling for Wike’s sack do not have the best interests of President Tinubu or national development at heart, reaffirming its support for the minister’s continued stay in office.

Momodu had argued that a pairing of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi could perform strongly in the election, citing their past collaboration in 2019 and Obi’s 2023 electoral performance.

Responding, Tanko questioned the logic of choosing a candidate who might win a primary but lose the general election, insisting that the Obi–Kwankwaso combination would be more formidable.

He further warned that if the ADC fails to zone its presidential ticket to the South, the party risks losing the 2027 election.

Tanko maintained that with Obi and former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso on the same ticket, victory would be decisive and swift.
