Addressing lawmakers in Gusau, the governor emphasized that the budget aims to consolidate ongoing reforms and accelerate growth across critical sectors. The proposal allocates N714 billion, or 83% of the total, to capital expenditure, while N147.28 billion, representing 17%, is earmarked for recurrent costs.
Sectoral allocations include N65 billion for education, N87 billion for health, N86 billion for agriculture, N45 billion for public order and safety, N22 billion for environmental protection, and N17 billion for social welfare programs.
Governor Lawal affirmed his administration’s commitment to restoring public trust, enhancing service delivery, and laying a strong foundation for long-term economic and social stability. He described the 2026 budget, dubbed the “Budget of Stability and Growth,” as a reflection of his government’s dedication to inclusive development and sustained progress.
Highlighting fiscal discipline, the governor noted that recurrent expenditure aligns with international best practices for subnational governments, ensuring operational costs do not undermine developmental objectives. He stressed that the substantial capital expenditure component is designed to modernize agriculture, improve healthcare, rebuild infrastructure, enhance security, and expand educational opportunities for youth and vulnerable populations.
Governor Lawal urged lawmakers to carefully review the proposal to facilitate its timely passage and implementation, emphasizing the importance of collective responsibility in achieving the state’s development goals.
