“Jonathan Blames NDDC Instability On Constant Leadership Changes!”
Former President Goodluck Jonathan has raised concerns over the consistent leadership instability in the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), warning that such frequent changes have severely hampered the Commission’s ability to complete critical developmental projects.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
According to NIVONEWS, Jonathan made the remarks during the grand finale of the 25th anniversary celebration of the NDDC held in Port Harcourt on Saturday. He lamented that many commissioned projects across the Niger Delta remain uncompleted, not because the managers lacked intent, but due to the constant replacement of leadership at the Commission.
“But something critical that I need to mention—and Onyema Ugochukwu, the pioneer chairman, also noted—is that the frequent changes in NDDC leadership have been a serious impediment to its development goals,” Jonathan stated.
He referenced insights shared by World Trade Organization Director-General, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, in a keynote address, noting that numerous abandoned projects were largely the result of this leadership inconsistency. According to NIVONEWS, Jonathan pointed out that over a 25-year span, the NDDC has had 11 Chief Executive Officers, averaging a tenure of just over two years.
“In such a short period, how can any leader properly plan or execute meaningful, long-term projects?” he asked, stressing that without stability, development agencies resort to contractor-driven initiatives that lack strategic vision.
Jonathan, a former governor of Bayelsa State, also commended President Bola Tinubu for showing a clear commitment to the region’s development by retaining Samuel Ogbuku as NDDC Managing Director.
According to NIVONEWS, Jonathan emphasized that Ogbuku’s continuity in office is a positive deviation from past practices. “President Tinubu assumed office in May 2023, and had he not been interested in the development of the Niger Delta, he could have replaced Ogbuku, who had barely spent five months in office. Instead, he allowed him to continue, and today we are celebrating the result of that consistency.”
