Although the specific states were not disclosed by Iliya, the Commander of the National Safe Schools Response Coordination Centre, Hammed Abodunrin, revealed that they included Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Benue, Yobe, Katsina, FCT, Kebbi, Sokoto, Plateau, Zamfara, and three others.

The recent surge in abductions underscores the severity of the situation, with no fewer than 465 pupils, teachers, and women currently held captive by their abductors.

In response to these incidents, the Safe Schools Initiative (SSI) was launched as a collaborative effort between the Federal Government, private sector leaders, and international partners to enhance the security of schools across the country. The initiative includes various interventions aimed at protecting schools and at-risk populations.

Several states have already taken steps to implement the SSI, including allocating funds in their budgets for school security measures. Additionally, security personnel have undergone training, and equipment has been commissioned for deployment to enhance security operations.

Furthermore, state governments are collaborating with security agencies to strengthen school security measures, including perimeter fencing and increased security presence.

While the government is taking proactive measures to address the security situation, challenges remain, particularly in remote and vulnerable communities. Efforts are underway to extend security coverage to these areas and enhance cooperation with regional and international partners to counter the threat posed by bandits and insurgents.
