He stated, “Due to the ongoing crisis within the leadership of the People’s Democratic Party at the national level, I officially conveyed my resignation letter to the party leadership in Sagba Abogunde, Ward 2, Ede North Local Government on November 4, 2025. I thank the party and its many members and supporters for the opportunities they have provided me, first as a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and now as Governor of Osun State.”

The development follows earlier indications from the Osun PDP chapter that Governor Adeleke was unlikely to seek the party’s nomination for the 2026 governorship election unless the party’s internal disputes were resolved. The state PDP leadership had expressed hope that a resolution, formally recognized by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) within its election timeline, could persuade him to remain in the party and contest for the governorship.

Describing politics as a reciprocal process, Wike stressed that the era of empty promises was over:

“Leaders must demonstrate their commitment to delivering good governance. You cannot make promises during elections and vanish afterward without fulfilling them. We asked you to support Tinubu, starting with the area council elections. On February 21, you came through, delivering 133 of the 135 polling units in the council for Tinubu. What more can we say but thank you? You have done your part; we will now do ours. Abaji people have spoken, and they spoke decisively,” he said.
