In a detailed statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the APC clarified its stance on Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s impeachment and the status of the State House of Assembly.
The APC distanced itself from calls for Fubara’s impeachment, refuting claims made by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in a recent press briefing. Instead, the APC pointed out that Fubara’s own actions and statements are leading to his potential impeachment.
Central to the issue is Fubara’s assertion that the Rivers State House of Assembly does not exist, a statement deemed reckless and unconstitutional by the APC. The party emphasized the constitutional significance of the legislature and criticized Fubara for undermining its authority.
Furthermore, the APC addressed the legal complexities surrounding the defection of 27 House of Assembly members from the PDP to the APC. It emphasized that only a court of law can determine whether these members have vacated their seats, dismissing Fubara’s unilateral declaration regarding their status.
The statement highlighted Fubara’s disregard for the rule of law and his attempts to govern without constitutional checks and balances. It condemned his actions, including the demolition of the Rivers State House of Assembly complex, as acts of executive lawlessness.
