ACF Explodes: ‘We Never Backed Amnesty For Terrorists!’.
According to Nivo News, the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has firmly denied reports spreading across social media alleging that it endorsed amnesty or financial compensation for terrorists and bandits operating in northern Nigeria.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The northern socio-political body issued a statement on Monday, December 1, clarifying that the misleading claim originated from an edited and distorted video clip extracted from an interview granted to a television station by its Board of Trustees Chairman, Bashir Dalhatu. The viral clip had insinuated that the forum was advocating a programme reminiscent of the late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua’s Amnesty initiative for Niger Delta militants.
In its rebuttal, the ACF dismissed the interpretation as deceptive, stressing that the circulated footage had been manipulated to misrepresent Dalhatu’s stance. The organisation, through its National Publicity Secretary, Prof. T. A. Muhammad-Baba, accused unnamed actors of deliberately twisting the interview to confuse the public. It noted that the full, unedited version remained accessible online for those interested in the proper context.
The forum emphasised that Dalhatu’s remarks during the interview were largely personal views and did not reflect an official position of the ACF. It pointed out that only minimal portions of his comments touched on broader northern perspectives. The group further reminded the public that Dalhatu had unequivocally condemned terrorism at the start of the interview, calling for the complete eradication of terrorists and bandits to restore stability in the region.
Addressing the reference to the Niger Delta amnesty, the ACF insisted the commentary had been grossly misinterpreted, explaining that Dalhatu merely highlighted the need for government to evaluate a range of kinetic and non-kinetic strategies in addressing security challenges. It stated that he never proposed adopting the Niger Delta model in its entirety, insisting that anyone pushing such a claim was expressing a personal opinion rather than reflecting his intentions.
The organisation also refuted accusations that Dalhatu attributed terrorism or banditry to any ethnic or religious group, stressing that he made no such references throughout the interview. Descriptions suggesting otherwise were dismissed as deliberate mischief.
Reaffirming its long-standing position, the ACF declared that it had never advocated amnesty for terrorists or bandits. It reiterated its commitment to supporting the Federal Government and security agencies in their efforts to eradicate insecurity and restore peace across the country.
