700 Delta Residents Benefit from Free Medical Outreach in Ibusa
IBUSA, Delta State (Oct. 11, 2025) — More than 700 residents of Ibusa and nearby communities in Delta State have received free medical treatment during a two-day outreach program organized to improve access to health care in rural areas.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The outreach, held in Oshimili North Local Government Area, was organized by the Association of Ibusa Professional Women (AIPROW) in collaboration with the Ibusa Association USA, Inc. and the Foundation Educational Support Programme, Enugu.
The program provided free medical consultations, diagnosis, and distribution of drugs to hundreds of people who trooped to the venue for various health services.
According to organizers, the exercise also included eye screening, blood pressure and diabetes checks, cancer screening, and mental health evaluation. Over 18 medical professionals, including doctors, pharmacists, and nurses, volunteered their services during the event.
Speaking at the outreach, Mrs. Elizabeth Idigbe, President of AIPROW, said the turnout showed how badly rural communities need access to affordable health care.
“Many people in our communities cannot afford medical treatment. This program helps us reach them and remind everyone that health is wealth,” she said.
Idigbe explained that the outreach has been part of AIPROW’s mission for the past 14 years, focusing on improving the well-being of women and families in Ibusa and neighboring communities.
“We are grateful for the support from our partners in the United States and Nigeria. This initiative is our way of giving back to the community that raised us,” she added.
Former AIPROW president, Prof. Ifeoma Utomi, said the group initially focused on women and girls but later expanded to cover men, children, and the elderly.
“Our goal is to ensure everyone has access to basic health care, especially those living in remote parts of Delta State,” she said.
One of the medical volunteers, Dr. Iheanacho Emereuwa, a U.S.-based consultant gynecologist and founder of the African Primary Healthcare Foundation, described the outreach as “a much-needed lifeline” for residents.
“This kind of program brings health care closer to the people. We need more of these efforts, especially in rural communities where hospitals and clinics are lacking,” he said.
The outreach also featured eye care services, with over 300 people receiving eye tests and 200 eyeglasses distributed free of charge. Organizers also donated wheelchairs and walking aids to people with mobility challenges.
Aside from medical services, participants attended health education sessions on nutrition, hygiene, and self-confidence for young girls.
One beneficiary, Mrs. Veronica, who received free eyeglasses, expressed gratitude to the organizers.
“I have not been able to see clearly for years because I could not afford glasses. What they did for me today is a blessing,” she said with tears of joy.
AIPROW leaders called on the Delta State government and other stakeholders to partner with non-profit organizations to expand free health programs across the state.
“Government support will help us reach more people and sustain the impact,” Idigbe said.
Residents praised the organizers for bringing health care to their doorsteps, describing the initiative as timely and life-saving.
Organizers promised to continue the outreach in other communities in Delta State to ensure more residents benefit from free and quality health services.
