Shettima Urges Respect for Dangote’s Investment to Protect Nigeria’s Future
ABUJA — Vice President Kashim Shettima has called on Nigerians to respect and support Aliko Dangote’s $19 billion refinery project, emphasizing its significance for the nation’s economic future.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Speaking at the Nigerian Economic Summit 2025 in Abuja, Shettima highlighted the importance of the Dangote Refinery, Africa’s largest single-train refinery capable of processing 650,000 barrels of crude oil daily. He described the facility as a national asset that must be supported to succeed.
Shettima praised Dangote for choosing to invest in Nigeria rather than in global tech companies like Microsoft, Amazon, or Google. He noted that if Dangote had invested the $19 billion in these tech giants, he could have been worth $120 billion today. Instead, Dangote opted to invest in his own country, a decision Shettima commended as a demonstration of patriotism and commitment to Nigeria’s development.
The Vice President emphasized that Nigeria’s future depends on supporting such investments. He urged both labor unions and the private sector to prioritize national interests over individual or sectoral gains. “Nigeria is greater than PENGASSAN,” Shettima declared, referencing the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, in response to recent industrial actions.
Shettima’s remarks underscore the government’s commitment to fostering an environment conducive to domestic investments, which are seen as crucial for sustainable economic growth. The Dangote Refinery is expected to reduce Nigeria’s dependence on imported refined petroleum products and significantly impact the global oil market.
The Vice President concluded by urging all stakeholders to protect and promote investments like Dangote’s, as they are vital for the nation’s progress and prosperity.
