US-Based Doctor Builds Nigerian Hospital After Losing Loved Ones

Published

on

United States-based medical doctor, Dr. Chukwudi Mbakwe, has turned personal pain into purpose by building a modern hospital in Nigeria. The project, he said, was inspired by the tragic loss of family members who could not get timely medical care in the country.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Mbakwe, who has spent years practicing medicine in the United States, explained that he felt a deep sense of responsibility to give back to his homeland. “I lost close relatives because they could not access good hospitals on time. That pain never left me,” he said. “I decided to create something that would help people and prevent more families from going through the same suffering.”

The new facility, located in southeastern Nigeria, is designed to meet international standards, with advanced equipment, trained medical staff, and emergency response units. According to Mbakwe, the hospital will focus on critical services such as surgery, maternity, intensive care, and diagnostic testing — areas that are often lacking in many local hospitals.

Turning grief into hope
Mbakwe recalled how the deaths of loved ones became a turning point in his life. Instead of staying silent, he channeled his grief into action. “Every time I thought about the people I lost, I knew I had to do something. I wanted to make sure others would have a chance to live, even if my family members did not,” he explained.

He also shared that the idea of building a hospital was not easy. It required years of planning, fundraising, and personal sacrifice. “I could have lived comfortably in the U.S. and forgotten about it. But I believe our people deserve better health care, and someone has to make that sacrifice,” he said.

Bridging gaps in Nigeria’s health care
Nigeria continues to face challenges in its health sector, with frequent strikes by doctors, shortage of medical staff, and lack of modern facilities. Patients often travel long distances or even leave the country for treatment abroad. Mbakwe said his goal is to reduce that dependency by offering quality care at home.

“The truth is, people should not have to fly to India, Europe, or America for treatments that can be done here. This hospital is a step toward showing that Nigeria can have the same standards,” he said.

The hospital is expected to provide jobs for local doctors, nurses, and other medical professionals. It will also serve as a training center for young medical students, giving them access to modern equipment and practices without needing to leave the country.

Community support and future plans
Local community leaders praised Mbakwe for his efforts, calling the hospital a blessing to the region. “We are grateful to see one of our own invest in health care. This will save lives and bring development,” said Chief Emmanuel Okoro, a traditional leader in the area.

Mbakwe noted that this is only the beginning. He plans to expand the facility in the coming years, adding more specialized units such as cardiology, oncology, and advanced laboratories. He also hopes to partner with international health organizations to bring in expertise and support.

A message of hope
For Mbakwe, the hospital is more than just a building — it is a symbol of resilience and hope. “I want people to see that even when we experience loss, we can turn it into something meaningful. If my story inspires just one other person to give back to Nigeria, then it will be worth it,” he said.

The opening of the hospital marks a significant step in the fight for better health care in Nigeria, and for many families, it offers a future where losing loved ones to preventable causes may finally become a thing of the past.

Key aspects of the petition include:

  • Allegations of False Representation: The petition challenges a November 3, 2025, letter sent to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) which falsely claimed that the PDP National Working Committee (NWC) had replaced acting national chairman Ambassador Umar Iliya Damagum with Mohammed.

  • Contradictory NWC Records: Petitioners assert that the NWC’s November 1, 2025, emergency meeting actually resulted in the suspension of Anyanwu and three other officers due to alleged anti-party activities, and no record exists to support the claim that Damagum was suspended or Mohammed appointed.

  • Legal Precedents: The lawyers referenced an October 10, 2024, Federal High Court judgment that recognizes Damagum as the acting national chairman and prohibits INEC from accepting documents without his signature. Furthermore, they noted that the Court of Appeal upheld the NWC’s suspension of Anyanwu on March 9, 2026.

  • Call for Institutional Review: The petitioners have requested that the IGP investigate how INEC processed the contested November 3 letter despite being aware of the existing court orders and the NWC’s official resolutions.

  • Stated Objective: Counsel for the petitioner emphasized that the action is intended to address the integrity of public institutions and prevent the use of misleading internal party documentation, noting their readiness to provide supporting court judgments and party records to the police.
