Tinubu Economic Adviser Says Nigerians Now Have ‘Serious Government’
ABUJA, Nigeria — Nigerians asked for a serious government, and they now have one in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, according to Tope Fasua, special adviser to the president on economic affairs.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Fasua made the remark while discussing the state of Nigeria’s economy under Tinubu’s administration. He said Tinubu has taken tough but necessary decisions to set the country on the path of stability and growth.
“People wanted a serious government, now Nigeria has a serious government in the person of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu who has done the needful,” Fasua said.
Since taking office in May 2023, Tinubu has introduced several reforms aimed at reshaping Africa’s largest economy. Among his most notable moves were ending fuel subsidies and unifying Nigeria’s multiple exchange rates. Supporters say these policies are bold steps that previous administrations avoided, while critics argue they have worsened inflation and hardship for ordinary citizens.
The removal of fuel subsidies immediately led to higher petrol prices nationwide, which in turn pushed up the cost of food, transport and other basic needs. Nigeria’s inflation rate rose above 30 percent in 2024, the highest in two decades, sparking protests and calls for relief measures.
Fasua acknowledged the pain many Nigerians are facing but insisted that Tinubu’s approach is necessary for long-term recovery. “The president is focused on rebuilding the economy on solid ground, not temporary fixes. The changes are difficult, but they are essential for Nigeria’s future,” he said.
The Tinubu administration has defended its reforms by pointing to increased revenue from savings on fuel subsidies and improved confidence among foreign investors. The government says funds saved are being redirected to infrastructure, agriculture, education and social programs to support the most vulnerable citizens.
Economists remain divided on the pace and impact of Tinubu’s policies. Some argue that without subsidies, Nigeria can finally invest in long-neglected sectors and reduce corruption linked to fuel imports. Others caution that without stronger social safety nets, millions of Nigerians risk falling deeper into poverty.
Opposition parties have also criticized the government’s approach, saying Tinubu’s team is pushing ordinary Nigerians to bear the brunt of reforms while elites remain unaffected. Labor unions have staged strikes and threatened more action if wage increases and subsidies for essential goods are not provided.
Despite the controversy, Fasua stressed that Tinubu is determined to continue on the path of reform. “This government is not about playing to the gallery. It is about real results,” he said. “President Tinubu is serious, decisive, and committed to changing Nigeria’s economic story.”
Nigeria, with a population of more than 200 million, is Africa’s top oil producer, but decades of corruption, mismanagement and dependence on imports have weakened its economy. Experts say structural reforms are necessary but must be balanced with measures that protect ordinary people.
As the government pushes forward, Nigerians remain divided between hope and hardship. For some, Tinubu’s bold policies signal a chance to reset the economy and end years of stagnation. For others, the immediate reality of higher prices and shrinking incomes overshadows promises of long-term gains.
The coming months will test the administration’s ability to deliver relief while maintaining reform. Analysts say Tinubu’s success will depend on how well his government manages inflation, creates jobs, and shows tangible improvements in the daily lives of Nigerians.
For now, Fasua’s message is clear: the government believes it is doing what is necessary, even if unpopular. “Nigeria asked for leadership that would not shy away from hard decisions,” he said. “That is what President Tinubu is giving.”

The EFCC alleges that Bodejo accepted various large cash payments in U.S. dollars from Sa’idu Abubakar, including $100,000 in January 2022, $200,000 later that month, $980,000 in February 2024, and $500,000 in March 2024.

“THEY DON’T LIKE ME!”: FCT Minister Nyesom Wike Exposes Tense Relationship With Civil Servants!.
-
FCT Minister Nyesom Wike stated during a monthly media chat in Abuja that he is unpopular among civil servants.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

He attributed this lack of popularity to his efforts to shut down channels for the fraudulent diversion of public funds, explaining that money previously misappropriated by staff is now being redirected toward road infrastructure.
Reasons for Friction
-
The Minister criticized the habit of approving funds for unnecessary activities, such as traveling to conferences in the United States for land administration, suggesting that staff should instead conduct research locally.
-
Wike highlighted a significant shift in budget management, noting that he reduced recurrent expenditure in favor of capital expenditure, moving from a system where recurrent spending accounted for 65 percent of the budget to one where capital projects now receive 70 percent of funding.
-
He maintained that he will not approve large sums for “frivolous” conferences, choosing instead to prioritize infrastructure projects that provide tangible benefits to the public.
-
Conclusively, Wike asserted that because he puts money into roads rather than funding these conferences—which he described as vehicles for corruption—he does not expect to be liked by the civil service workforce.
