Sokoto Clarifies Recruitment Form Confusion, Urges Online Application

Published

Sokoto State government has clarified confusion over recruitment forms circulating in the state and urged applicants to submit applications only through its official online portal.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The clarification came after reports that some job seekers were misled into obtaining physical forms or dealing with unauthorized individuals claiming to represent the government.

In a statement on Thursday, the Sokoto Ministry of Information said all recruitment into state agencies, ministries and departments will be processed strictly online. Officials stressed that there will be no sale of forms and no need for applicants to visit offices in person.

“The government wishes to make it clear that recruitment is free of charge,” the statement said. “Applicants are strongly advised to submit their applications only through the designated online portal to avoid falling victim to fraudsters.”

Officials explained that the online process is designed to ensure transparency, reduce human interference and make the system accessible to all qualified residents, including those living outside the state capital.

The government also warned against middlemen or agents who claim to have influence in the recruitment process. According to the statement, anyone asking for payment in exchange for job placement is acting illegally.

Background of the confusion

The warning followed reports of young graduates and job seekers gathering at different locations in Sokoto city with printed forms, believing they were part of the official recruitment process. Some said they were asked to pay small fees for the forms.

Social media posts added to the confusion, with unverified messages circulating on WhatsApp and Facebook that applicants must buy or collect hard-copy forms. The government said those messages were false and not from official sources.

This is not the first time Sokoto has faced challenges during recruitment exercises. In past years, rumors and unofficial forms have led to crowds at government offices, sparking concerns about fairness and security.

Emphasis on digital access

Officials said moving the entire process online is part of the state’s plan to modernize recruitment and make it easier for people in rural areas to apply without traveling long distances. The portal will remain open for a set period, and applicants will be able to track their submissions electronically.

“Every applicant has an equal chance,” the Ministry said. “Selections will be based on merit and qualifications. No one should believe that buying forms or contacting officials will improve their chances.”

Voices from the community

Some residents welcomed the clarification. Musa Ibrahim, a recent graduate from Usmanu Danfodiyo University, said the announcement removed doubt.

“At first, we were not sure whether to buy the forms that people were sharing,” he said. “Now the government has made it clear. We will apply online and wait for the process.”

Civil society groups in Sokoto also urged the government to intensify public awareness campaigns, especially in rural communities where internet access may be limited. They suggested setting up help centers with internet facilities so applicants without smartphones or computers can still complete their applications.

Impact and next steps

The Sokoto government said further updates, including deadlines and requirements, will be published on its official website and through recognized media outlets. Officials also promised to investigate those circulating fake forms.

By stressing online applications, the state hopes to cut down on corruption, ensure equal opportunities and reduce the financial burden on applicants.

The ministry encouraged citizens to verify information only from official government channels.

“Job opportunities in Sokoto are for all qualified residents,” the statement said. “We will continue to protect the process against manipulation, and we call on the public to support this effort by ignoring fake news and refusing to pay money to anyone.”

The clarification is expected to reduce confusion and protect job seekers from fraud as the recruitment exercise moves forward.

“Our advice to road users, especially indigenes, is to protect the road from destruction. Let nobody come and destroy it or burn tyres in the name of celebration,” he said.

Omonowo said the Aba–Azumini highway was previously in a very bad condition before FERMA intervened, describing it as a death trap for commuters and residents.

He also expressed satisfaction with the quality of work done on the project, adding that drainage structures such as catch pits would help prevent flooding and extend the lifespan of the road.

According to him, the highway serves as a major link between Aba, several Abia communities, and Cross River State, carrying heavy traffic daily.

He urged local construction firms to improve on quality delivery to compete effectively with foreign contractors.

Meanwhile, the Federal Roads Maintenance Engineer in Abia State, Festus Okafor, said FERMA workers have not faced harassment or violence from residents during operations in the state.

Court Orders UI To Reinstate Students Suspended Over Fee Hike Protest.

Published

The Federal High Court sitting in Ibadan, Oyo State, has ordered the University of Ibadan (UI) to reinstate three students suspended over their participation in a protest against tuition fee hikes.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Delivering judgment on Wednesday, Justice Nkeonye Maha set aside the decision of the university’s Central Student Disciplinary Committee, ruling that the students were denied fair hearing during the disciplinary process.

The court held that the failure to allow the students call witnesses and present evidence violated their constitutional right to fair hearing, rendering the sanctions against them invalid.

The affected students — Aduwo Ayodele, Mide Gbadegesin, and Nice Linus — were suspended on July 14, 2025, after taking part in a protest against increased school fees approved by the university’s governing council.

Dissatisfied with the suspension, they approached the court, arguing that the disciplinary proceedings breached their fundamental rights and due process.

They asked the court to quash the suspension, reinstate their studentship, and award damages for alleged rights violations.

In her ruling, Justice Maha agreed with their arguments, stating that the university’s actions failed to meet the standards of natural justice.

Following the judgment, rights group CAPPA hailed the decision, urging the university to comply fully, reinstate the students, and issue an apology.

The group said the ruling reinforces constitutional protections for freedom of expression and serves as a warning against the suppression of student protests in tertiary institutions.
