Former Commissioner Blasts El-Rufai, Demands Investigation Into Ganduje Allegation
Former Kano State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Muhammad Garba, has rejected allegations by former Kano Governor Nasir El-Rufai implicating ex-APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje in the disappearance of critic Abubakar Isa, popularly known as Dadiyata.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
El-Rufai had reportedly linked Dadiyata’s disappearance to Ganduje. However, in a statement refuting the claims, Garba urged Nigerian security agencies to investigate El-Rufai, suggesting he may have key information about the matter.
Garba emphasized that Dadiyata lived and operated in Kaduna, where he was well-known for criticizing the Kaduna State government. He noted that there is no credible evidence indicating that Dadiyata primarily targeted the Kano State government or Ganduje.
“Everyone in Kaduna knew the nature of his criticism and who it was directed at,” Garba stated.
The former commissioner called for careful scrutiny of El-Rufai’s statements, stressing that serious allegations must be backed by verifiable evidence rather than political rhetoric. He warned that dragging Ganduje into the issue without proof politicizes a sensitive case and risks misleading the public.
Garba contrasted the political climate of Kano under Ganduje’s two-term administration, highlighting tolerance for criticism, open engagement with the media, and acceptance of opposition voices. “Unlike many leaders, we allowed scrutiny, accommodated critical perspectives, and even learned from dissenting voices,” he said, adding that there were no reports of arrests, intimidation, or harassment of journalists or critics during Ganduje’s tenure.
Garba also questioned El-Rufai’s claim that a police officer confessed to being sent from Kano to abduct Dadiyata. He asked why such serious information, if credible, was not formally reported to investigative authorities or pursued through proper security channels at the time. “It is hard to reconcile claims of having no prior knowledge of the individual with making detailed assertions about responsibility,” he said.
While expressing sympathy for Dadiyata’s family, Garba stressed that the focus should remain on uncovering the truth through lawful and transparent investigations. “The family deserves closure. They do not deserve for this tragic matter to become a tool for political blame-shifting,” he added.
