The policy, announced by the Ministry of Health on Thursday, sets clear guidelines for how hospitals and government agencies should purchase medicines. It emphasizes competitive bidding, quality checks, and accountability in the supply chain.

According to the Ministry, the new rules are designed to prevent corruption, reduce delays, and ensure that patients receive safe and effective medicines on time. Officials said this is part of the government’s broader effort to strengthen Nigeria’s healthcare system.

“The new procurement policy will help us deliver medicines more quickly and safely to our hospitals,” said Dr. Adewale Adebayo, Director of Pharmaceutical Services at the Ministry of Health. “It ensures that every step, from sourcing to delivery, is transparent and accountable.”

The policy requires all government health facilities to follow standardized procedures when purchasing medicines. Suppliers must meet strict quality standards and submit competitive bids. Hospitals will also be required to maintain accurate records to allow for audits and monitoring.
