Tango Brook Launches Digital Fuel Card to Cut Costs and Fight Fraud

Published

on

LAGOS, Nigeria — Tango Brook Technologies has introduced a new digital fuel card that it says will help drivers, households and businesses save money, reduce fuel theft and gain more control over their spending.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The Tango Fuel Card, launched Tuesday, combines a physical payment card with digital tools that track fuel use, generate reports and prevent fraud. The company says the card can be used at filling stations across Nigeria and will give customers real-time visibility into their fuel expenses.

According to Tango Brook, the system is designed to reduce fuel theft by up to 95 percent, set spending limits, and block unauthorized transactions. It also provides instant details of each purchase, including the exact amount of fuel bought and the cost per transaction.

Managing Director Obi Wemambu said the new card represents a major step forward for both individuals and businesses struggling with rising fuel costs.

“The Tango Fuel Card transforms fuel management by giving businesses and individuals real-time visibility into consumption, mileage and spending at both vehicle and driver levels,” Wemambu said in a statement. “With PIN protection, customizable limits and nationwide acceptance, it offers unmatched flexibility, security and convenience. Enhanced with built-in rewards, Tango delivers savings while ensuring total control.”

Added Value for Customers

The company emphasized that the fuel card is more than just a payment tool. Users can set limits on how much fuel drivers or family members can purchase, monitor transactions through an app, and stop misuse before it happens.

Chief Operating Officer Dubem Okafor said the card offers both security and savings at a time when Nigerians are looking for more value in their everyday spending.

“With the launch of the Tango Fuel Card, we’re introducing a smarter, more secure and rewarding way for people and businesses to manage their fuelling needs,” Okafor said. “This isn’t just about payments; it’s about giving customers transparency, convenience and value every time they power their journeys.”

The company said customers who use the card could save up to 15 percent on fuel costs. A loyalty program also allows users to earn up to an 8 percent bonus on their fuel budgets, which can be redeemed for future purchases.

Business and Corporate Benefits

For businesses, the Tango Fuel Card is positioned as a decision-making and accountability tool. Employers can set budgets for drivers, track how much fuel is used per vehicle, and prevent overspending or misuse. The data can also be used to plan more efficient routes and reduce waste.

Fuel fraud and theft are persistent challenges in Nigeria, where transport and logistics are key to many industries. Tango Brook says its new system will help reduce losses and give companies better insight into their operating costs.

How It Works

Getting started with the card is designed to be simple. Customers must first create an account and receive a digital wallet. They can then request a physical card, activate it, and begin using it at filling stations nationwide. Every transaction is tracked instantly, giving users access to detailed reports through their account.

Tango Brook said the card is part of its wider effort to use technology to simplify everyday services for Nigerians. The company, which develops financial and consumer technology products, hopes the new platform will gain traction with both private motorists and large fleet operators.

Industry Context

The launch comes at a time when fuel costs remain a major concern in Nigeria. Rising global oil prices and subsidy reforms have pushed up pump prices, making fuel one of the biggest household and business expenses. Many companies have also reported losses from theft or misuse of fuel allocations.

By combining payment, tracking and reward features, Tango Brook hopes to offer a solution that makes fuel management more efficient and transparent.

The company did not disclose how many customers have already signed up but said it expects strong adoption in the coming months.

As Nigerians continue to adapt to higher energy costs, the Tango Fuel Card could play a role in how households and businesses manage one of their most essential needs — fueling their journeys.
