Brigadier General Ibrahim Buba, who assumed office last week, made the pledge during his formal handover ceremony in Dutse, the state capital. He said improving cooperation among security agencies would enhance the effectiveness of law enforcement and public safety.

“I am committed to working closely with the police, military, and other security organizations in Jigawa,” Buba said. “Our goal is to ensure the safety of every resident while promoting peace and security across the state.”

The NSCDC, a paramilitary organization tasked with protecting lives and property, has faced challenges in recent years, including armed robbery, banditry, and communal clashes. Experts say that better coordination among agencies can significantly reduce criminal activities and improve response times.

Governor Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, who attended the handover, urged the new commander to prioritize intelligence sharing and joint operations. He said, “Security is a shared responsibility. The government will continue to support all efforts to keep Jigawa safe, but collaboration among security agencies is essential.”

Buba, a seasoned officer with over 20 years of experience in the NSCDC, emphasized community engagement as part of his strategy. “We cannot do this alone,” he said. “The people of Jigawa must also play a role by reporting suspicious activities and supporting security initiatives.”

In his previous postings, Buba led several successful operations against criminal networks, earning recognition for his leadership and strategic planning. Analysts say his appointment could bring renewed focus to curbing crime in Jigawa, particularly in rural areas prone to attacks by bandits.

The new commander also highlighted the importance of training and capacity building for NSCDC personnel. “We will equip our officers with the skills and resources needed to respond effectively to threats,” he said. “Professionalism and discipline will guide all our actions.”

Residents welcomed the appointment, expressing hope that enhanced collaboration between the NSCDC and other agencies will lead to safer communities. Many cited recent joint operations in neighboring states that successfully reduced crime as examples of what could be achieved in Jigawa.

Officials said the NSCDC will soon launch new community outreach programs and intelligence-sharing initiatives. These measures are expected to strengthen trust between security forces and the public, helping prevent crime before it occurs.

With rising concerns over security nationwide, Buba’s pledge comes at a crucial time. Observers note that coordinated efforts among security agencies, combined with public support, are key to creating lasting peace and stability in Jigawa State.

The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has adjusted its gantry price for Premium Motor Spirit (petrol), lowering it from ₦1,275 to ₦1,250 per litre, marking a two per cent reduction. This price shift is attributed to a decline in international crude oil prices, which serve as the refinery’s primary feedstock.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                    An official from the refinery noted that such adjustments are expected in a deregulated market and emphasized that the company will continue to calibrate prices based on evolving market conditions. Despite this move, current retail prices at many filling stations across Nigeria remain above ₦1,350 per litre, with costs varying by location and marketer.Beyond pricing, the refinery has been credited as a key driver of Nigeria’s improving economic outlook. S&P Global Ratings recently upgraded the country’s long-term foreign- and local-currency sovereign credit ratings from “B-” to “B,” citing factors such as stronger economic growth, increased oil production, and improved external balances. A political war of words has erupted between former APC National Chairman Abdullahi Umar Ganduje and former presidential candidate Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso. The friction began when Kwankwaso, speaking at his Kano residence, insisted that prominent politicians—including Ganduje—owe their political rise to his mentorship and cannot deny their past loyalty to him. Ganduje, currently performing the Hajj pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia, responded through his chief of staff, Muhammad Garba, by asserting that Kwankwaso was actually his own protégé. Ganduje highlighted his role in Kwankwaso’s early career, including his support during Kwankwaso’s rise to the House of Representatives and his decision to step down as a gubernatorial candidate in 1998 to serve as Kwankwaso’s deputy.
