Comedian Sanku Death Sparks Debate Over Unpaid Loan on His Car

Published

on

Lagos, Nigeria – The death of popular Nigerian comedian Sanku has triggered controversy over an unpaid loan linked to his car, raising questions about financial obligations and the treatment of deceased celebrities’ estates.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Sanku, 34, died suddenly on Sunday at his Lagos home. The cause of death has not been publicly confirmed. Soon after, reports emerged that he still owed money on a vehicle he had purchased through a bank loan.

According to sources close to the family, the car was financed through a local bank, and the unpaid balance has become a point of dispute. Some creditors have demanded payment immediately, while family members say they were unaware of the debt.

“The family is shocked and mourning,” said a close friend who asked not to be named. “They are not sure how to handle the loan, and they feel pressured by the bank and the loan company.”

Sanku rose to fame with his comedy skits that attracted millions of fans on social media. Known for his humor and lively personality, he had recently announced plans for a nationwide tour before his sudden death.

The unpaid car loan issue has sparked public debate online, with many questioning whether financial institutions should act aggressively against families immediately after a loved one’s death. Some commentators said the situation highlights the challenges of managing debt in Nigeria, especially for young celebrities who may not have legal safeguards in place.

Financial experts say that loans are legally binding, even after the borrower dies. “Banks and financial institutions have the right to recover debts,” said Mr. Chike Obi, a Lagos-based financial analyst. “But the process should be handled sensitively, particularly when a family is grieving.”

Others argue that lenders could show more flexibility. “In cases like this, banks could negotiate payment plans or temporarily pause collections to give the family time to sort out affairs,” said Adaeze Okafor, a lawyer specializing in estate law.

Social media users have expressed sympathy for the comedian’s family, while also criticizing financial institutions for strict enforcement. A hashtag calling for banks to “show mercy on Sanku’s family” has been circulating widely.

Sanku’s funeral is scheduled for later this week, and family members say they are focusing on honoring his legacy rather than the financial dispute. “He brought joy to millions, and that is what we want to remember,” a family representative said.

Experts note that the case could set a precedent for how unpaid loans are handled after the death of public figures in Nigeria. Legal observers say that if the bank proceeds aggressively, it may prompt public backlash. Conversely, leniency could encourage discussions on better financial planning and protections for entertainers.

The comedian’s death also raises awareness about the financial pressures faced by artists. Many rely on loans to fund their work and lifestyle, but without proper planning, these obligations can become burdensome.

As the country mourns Sanku, the debate over his unpaid car loan continues to highlight broader issues of debt, responsibility, and compassion in financial matters. Authorities and experts say families should seek legal advice, and institutions are encouraged to handle such situations with care.

Sanku’s fans, meanwhile, continue to share memories and tributes online, keeping the comedian’s humor and spirit alive in the public eye. The story serves as both a reminder of his impact and a warning about the challenges of financial obligations, even in the wake of unexpected tragedy.

Air Peace Breaks Silence On Gatwick–Lagos Disruption, Denies Abandoning Passengers.

Published

Nigeria’s leading carrier, Air Peace Limited, has reacted to the disruption of its London Gatwick–Lagos flight service on May 1, 2026, explaining the circumstances surrounding the incident.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

In a statement posted on , the airline insisted that no passenger was abandoned and maintained that its actions were guided strictly by safety procedures.

The management said a viral social media video claiming passengers were left stranded without support or communication “does not accurately represent the full situation surrounding the disruption.”

According to Air Peace, the flight was impacted by a bird strike, which it described as a recognised force majeure occurrence in aviation that required the aircraft to be grounded immediately for safety inspections.

“The affected flight experienced a bird strike necessitating the immediate grounding of the aircraft for comprehensive safety inspections in line with global aviation standards,” the statement read, adding that “safety is not negotiable, and under no circumstance would we operate an aircraft without the required safety clearance.”

The airline said passengers were promptly informed of the incident and the cancellation of the flight, and that arrangements were made for their welfare, including hotel accommodation at the Hilton London Gatwick.

However, it acknowledged that certain operational challenges affected passenger handling, especially in relation to baggage retrieval.

“We encountered additional operational constraints, including airport congestion and delays from ground handling services responsible for baggage retrieval,” it stated.

Air Peace clarified that baggage handling at international airports is managed by third-party ground handling companies and is not directly controlled by the airline.

“Baggage handling at international airports is managed by designated ground handling companies and as such, Air Peace does not exercise direct control over these processes,” it added.

The airline strongly denied allegations that passengers were abandoned, insisting that communication was maintained throughout the disruption.

“At no point were passengers abandoned. Communication was maintained with all affected passengers, and every effort was made to ensure their welfare,” it said, noting that accommodation was provided while arrangements were underway to deploy another aircraft.

Air Peace also criticised the backlash it has received, describing it as excessive and unjustified given the safety-related nature of the incident.

“We find the ongoing negative hounding of our airline over a safety-driven, force majeure incident to be shocking and unwarranted,” it stated, while noting that the flight captain kept passengers updated throughout the process.

While acknowledging the inconvenience caused, the airline urged for understanding, stressing that aviation operations are complex and cannot be treated as instant processes.

“We recognise that aviation disruptions can be distressing; however, aviation operations are not ‘plug and play’,” it said, noting the involvement of multiple stakeholders and strict safety regulations.

Reaffirming its commitment, Air Peace said it remains dedicated to passenger safety, comfort, and welfare, adding that it will continue to improve its processes to better handle unexpected disruptions.

Before the fight, Portable had confidently predicted victory, saying he would claim his third belt after previous wins over Charles Okocha and Speed Darlington.
