Veteran Nigerian entertainer and activist, Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy, has described the recent renaming of a popular Lagos bus stop previously named after him as a distraction from the country’s real challenges.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The Bariga Local Council Development Area (LCDA) recently replaced the iconic “Charly Boy Bus Stop” with “Olamide Badoo Bus Stop”, in honour of the celebrated rapper and music executive. The decision has ignited widespread reactions, with many Nigerians and political observers expressing dismay over what they see as a symbolic erasure.

Speaking on ARISE Television on Tuesday, Charly Boy criticised the move as politically driven and symptomatic of the leadership’s failure to confront Nigeria’s most pressing issues.

“This is more of a distraction. We’re not facing what we should be facing in these times. Whether you like it or not, the race for 2027 has already begun,” he said.

The bus stop, located in the Bariga-Gbagada axis, had been popularly known as “Charly Boy Bus Stop” for decades, largely due to Oputa’s deep-rooted connection to the community where he lived from 1989 to 2006. During that time, he was widely recognised for his philanthropic efforts, including providing scholarships, donating motorcycles to commercial riders, and supporting elderly pensioners.

“They started calling it Charlie Boy Bus Stop because I lived at that spot. It became popular naturally through community consensus,” he explained.

Charly Boy also took aim at the divisive tactics of political elites, accusing them of deliberately exploiting ethnic and political fault lines to maintain control.

“Why is it that whenever politics is at play, they try to pitch us against each other? It’s because we allow them to. How can the worst of us lead the best of us?” he questioned.

The activist’s remarks have resonated with many Nigerians who see the renaming controversy as reflective of deeper issues surrounding governance, identity, and political manipulation in the country.

APC Fires Back at Adeleke Over ₦300bn LG Funds Allegation, Blames Governor for Salary Crisis....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The Osun State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has responded to claims by Governor Ademola Adeleke that local government officials under the party diverted about ₦300 billion meant for workers’ salaries.

Adeleke had made the allegation during a stakeholders’ meeting, accusing APC-controlled council officials of hijacking funds and forcing the state government to shoulder salary payments for local government workers, teachers, health staff, and pensioners for over a year.

He insisted he would not abandon workers, blaming the situation for delays in executing some state projects.

But in a statement, APC’s Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, dismissed the claims, accusing the governor of misleading the public and shifting blame.

The party alleged that Adeleke was responsible for the salary issues, claiming he refused to release electronic payment vouchers and other financial documents needed for processing payments.

APC also said pension-related records, leave bonuses, cooperative deductions, and other financial data had not been made available despite repeated appeals, insisting that funds were properly accounted for and available for use if approved.

The party urged pensioners and workers to seek clarification, insisting the situation could be resolved if the governor allowed due process to take place.
