Trans Niger Pipeline Restored After March 17 Attack

Published

Nigeria’s Trans Niger Pipeline (TNP) has resumed normal operations after being damaged by an explosion last week. According to Tony Okonedo, spokesperson for Renaissance, the pipeline was fully restored, ensuring the continuation of crude exports from Africa’s largest oil producer.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The TNP, with a capacity of approximately 450,000 barrels per day, is a key conduit for exporting Bonny Light crude. Following the March 17 attack, crude oil was rerouted through an alternative pipeline while repairs were carried out.

This development follows Shell’s sale of its Nigerian onshore subsidiary, Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC), to the Renaissance Group, which now holds a 30% stake in the joint venture alongside the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC), Total Exploration and Production Nigeria Ltd, and Agip Energy and Natural Resources.

The attack on the pipeline, which occurred near the Kpor and Bodo communities in Rivers State, led to the federal government declaring a state of emergency in the state on March 18. Authorities reported that the pipeline has been a frequent target of oil theft, vandalism, and sabotage.

Meanwhile, oil prices experienced a slight decline following Ukraine’s agreement with Russia for a Black Sea truce. Brent crude futures fell to $72.85 per barrel, while US West Texas Intermediate crude dropped to $68.86 per barrel. Despite this, concerns over potential US tariffs on Venezuelan oil imports may limit further price drops.

A Strong Endorsement for Donald Duke

  • Surpassing Competitors: Speaking during an interview, Baba-Ahmed confidently stated that, candidate for candidate, Donald Duke outperforms all other presidential contenders currently in the political space.

  • Integrity and Capability: He described Duke as part of a visionary leadership blueprint aimed at thinking critically, restoring national dignity, exhibiting true integrity, and offering young Nigerians a leadership style they can genuinely look up to.

The Strategic Push for an Opposition Coalition

Despite possessing what he considers the superior candidate, Baba-Ahmed explained why the party is actively championing a broader political alliance:

  • Consensus Over Ego: The PRP chairman emphasized that the party’s push for a mega-coalition is driven by consensus and constitutional processes rather than forcing Duke’s candidacy through on profile strength alone.

  • Defeating Fault Lines: Framing the 2027 election as a critical turning point for the nation, Baba-Ahmed noted that the stakes go far beyond individual party ambitions. The coalition aims to unite likeminded opposition forces to rescue Nigeria from its current trajectory and bridge its deep fault lines.
