Veteran Nigerian entertainer and activist, Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy, has dismissed the controversial renaming of a well-known Lagos bus stop previously named after him as nothing more than a political distraction.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

It was recently reported that the Bariga Local Council Development Area renamed the “Charly Boy Bus Stop” to “Olamide Badoo Bus Stop” in honour of the popular rapper and music executive. The move has stirred criticism from various quarters, including members of the public and some political figures.

Speaking during an interview on ARISE Television on Tuesday, Charly Boy described the renaming as a calculated attempt to divert public attention from more urgent national issues.

“This is nothing but a distraction,” he said. “We’re not focusing on the real problems we’re facing today. Like it or not, the race for 2027 has already begun.”

He went on to explain that the original naming of the bus stop after him was not an official government action but a gesture by the people, rooted in his long-standing relationship with the Bariga and Gbagada communities where he lived and engaged in philanthropic activities between 1989 and 2006.

“I lived at that bus stop, and over time, it became known as ‘Charly Boy Bus Stop’ because of my deep connection with the area. I provided scholarships, donated motorcycles to okada riders, supported elderly pensioners — all of that made people see me as one of their own,” he recalled.

Charly Boy also condemned the tendency of politicians to exploit ethnic and political divisions for selfish gain.

“Why is it that when politics comes into play, they always try to turn us against one another?” he asked. “It’s because we allow them. How is it possible that the worst of us are leading the best of us?”

APC Fires Back at Adeleke Over ₦300bn LG Funds Allegation, Blames Governor for Salary Crisis....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The Osun State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has responded to claims by Governor Ademola Adeleke that local government officials under the party diverted about ₦300 billion meant for workers’ salaries.

Adeleke had made the allegation during a stakeholders’ meeting, accusing APC-controlled council officials of hijacking funds and forcing the state government to shoulder salary payments for local government workers, teachers, health staff, and pensioners for over a year.

He insisted he would not abandon workers, blaming the situation for delays in executing some state projects.

But in a statement, APC’s Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, dismissed the claims, accusing the governor of misleading the public and shifting blame.

The party alleged that Adeleke was responsible for the salary issues, claiming he refused to release electronic payment vouchers and other financial documents needed for processing payments.

APC also said pension-related records, leave bonuses, cooperative deductions, and other financial data had not been made available despite repeated appeals, insisting that funds were properly accounted for and available for use if approved.

The party urged pensioners and workers to seek clarification, insisting the situation could be resolved if the governor allowed due process to take place.
