Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, has dismissed reports claiming he suspended government officials for failing to attend his daughter’s birthday party.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The rumour, which gained traction on (formerly Twitter), alleged that Governor Nwifuru sanctioned 25 commissioners and several appointees for missing the birthday celebration.

However, the Ebonyi State Government clarified that the suspensions were unrelated to any birthday event.

According to Monday Uzor, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, the disciplinary action was taken because the officials failed to attend a significant state function — the grand finale of a basic school sports competition organized by the Universal Basic Education Board (UBEC).

Uzor explained that the governor, who was away at the time, had delegated Deputy Governor Patricia Obila to represent him and had instructed senior government officials to attend the event. Despite this directive, a majority were absent, prompting the governor to take action.

“This is not the first time officials are failing to honour government functions,” Uzor said. “The image circulating online was taken at a private event in July and has no connection to the suspension.”

The suspended officials will face a one-month penalty, during which they will forfeit their salaries and be barred from signing official documents.

He warned against dragging the state into fresh tension, accusing the state government of attempting to revive old allegations for political advantage.

Adewara said the PDP would not remain silent while what he called “political narratives” are used to influence public perception around a tragic incident that claimed multiple lives in Offa in 2018.
