According to NIVONEWS, Mabel Toyobo, President of the club, addressed the market women during the visit, emphasizing the importance of maintaining hygiene in public marketplaces. She stated that the club’s initiative was a contribution to keeping Alade Market clean — a commitment rooted in one of the core pillars of Lions International.
She noted that since the market is a hub of human interaction, it is crucial to maintain a hygienic environment to prevent the spread of diseases and ensure that food and goods remain safe for consumers. “We are here to support the market’s cleanliness and to help make it a healthier place for both buyers and sellers,” Toyobo said.
She also commended the government’s efforts, especially the designation of Thursdays for market sanitation, while pointing out that more still needs to be done to achieve optimal cleanliness. She urged the market women to use the donated items responsibly to ensure longevity and impact.
According to NIVONEWS, Agnes Duke, the club’s Activity Chairperson, highlighted that their mission goes beyond donations. “We dedicate our time and resources to the wellbeing of our communities,” she said, adding that this outreach is just one of the many ways the club lives up to its service commitment.
According to NIVONEWS, the initiative was well-received by the traders, who expressed appreciation for the support and pledged to sustain hygienic practices in the market. The event served as both a health intervention and a community-building exercise, underscoring the club’s dedication to public welfare.
