No More Land Theft! Tinubu Declares War on Grabbing Syndicates in Benue”
President Bola Tinubu has vowed that the Federal Government will take decisive action against land-grabbing if it is confirmed to be a root cause of the repeated attacks in Benue State, including the recent massacre in Yelwata.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
During a town hall meeting with stakeholders in Makurdi on Wednesday, Tinubu stressed the urgent need to end the bloodshed that has devastated communities and claimed hundreds of lives.
“We weren’t elected to bury our people or create orphans. We will partner with you to achieve lasting peace,” the President said.
Recognizing the tension surrounding land disputes, Tinubu emphasized a unified approach to resolving the issue: “If land grabbing is the issue, we must address it. We have enough land to raise families and foster prosperity.”
He quoted the national anthem to promote unity: “Though tribe and tongue may differ, in brotherhood we stand. Let this guide our actions.”
To seek lasting peace, Tinubu directed the creation of a Benue Elders’ Peace Committee comprising former governors, traditional leaders like the Tor Tiv and Och’Idoma, and non-indigenes. The committee will meet in Abuja, with the President pledging federal support and funding.
He also ordered the Inspector General of Police and the Chief of Defence Staff to arrest those responsible for the Yelwata killings, where over 200 people were murdered by suspected armed herders.
“We will not allow such atrocities to go unpunished,” Tinubu stated.
Although he had planned to visit Yelwata, the trip was canceled due to poor road conditions and heavy rain. “I’ve seen the destruction. We will rebuild the community,” he assured.
Version 2 (Formal and Emotive):
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to tackling land-grabbing, especially where it is fueling violent attacks such as the recent Yelwata massacre in Benue State.
Addressing stakeholders during a town hall meeting in Makurdi on Wednesday, Tinubu lamented the tragic loss of lives and displacement of communities caused by persistent violence.
“We were not elected to attend funerals or raise orphanages. Our mandate is peace and development, and we will work with you to achieve it,” he said.
Citing the recurring tensions over land ownership, the President emphasized the need for a collective and compassionate response: “If these conflicts are rooted in land-grabbing, then we must confront them. Nigeria has enough land to feed our people and build a future of peace and prosperity.”
Invoking the national anthem, he urged unity: “Though tribe and tongue may differ, in brotherhood we stand. Let these words shape our actions.”
To find a sustainable solution, Tinubu ordered the immediate establishment of a Benue Elders’ Peace Committee composed of former governors, traditional rulers such as the Tor Tiv and Och’Idoma, and non-indigene stakeholders. The committee will convene in Abuja with full presidential backing.
The President also issued a stern directive to the Inspector General of Police and the Chief of Defence Staff to arrest those behind the brutal killing of over 200 residents in Yelwata.
“We cannot tolerate such barbarity. Justice must be served,” he declared.
While Tinubu had initially intended to visit the affected community, the journey was canceled due to heavy rains and deteriorated roads. Nonetheless, he assured residents of immediate government intervention.
“I have seen the devastation. We will act swiftly to restore and rebuild,” he concluded.
