Tribunal Sets June 4 for Ruling on Ondo Governorship Election Dispute
The Ondo State Election Petitions Tribunal has announced June 4, 2025, as the date for its final ruling on the November 16, 2024 governorship election dispute.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The three-member panel, led by Justice Benson Ogubu, scheduled the judgment after both petitioners and respondents adopted their final written arguments concerning the legality and conduct of the election.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had declared Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the closely watched contest.
However, Agboola Ajayi of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), alongside candidates from the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and African Democratic Congress (ADC), filed petitions challenging the result. They alleged widespread irregularities and electoral law violations.
In response, lawyers representing Governor Aiyedatiwa, his deputy Dr. Olayide Adelami, INEC, and other respondents, urged the Tribunal to dismiss the petitions for lack of merit. They argued that the opposition parties failed to present credible evidence of malpractice.
Following the adoption of final submissions from both sides, the Tribunal has now fixed June 4 to deliver its long-awaited verdict.
The outcome is expected to significantly impact the political landscape in Ondo State.
