Show Evidence Or Pay ₦100bn — Dangote Tells Kaduna Businessman.
The President of Dangote Group, Dr. Aliko Dangote, has issued a seven-day ultimatum to a Kaduna-based businessman, Engr. Kailani Mohammed, demanding a public retraction and apology over alleged defamatory remarks or risk facing a ₦100 billion lawsuit.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
According to Nivo News, Dangote conveyed his demands through a formal legal letter, insisting that Mohammed immediately withdraw statements he allegedly made accusing the industrialist of engaging in unclean business practices, particularly in Port Harcourt during the 1980s. Dangote also demanded a public explanation and an unreserved apology, describing the claims as false and damaging to his personal and corporate reputation.
The letter, dated December 20, 2025, was delivered to the businessman by Dangote’s legal counsel, Dr. Ogwu James Onoja, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria and principal partner at Onoja Law Firm, Abuja. It stated that the remarks in question had seriously lowered Dangote’s standing and cast doubt on the legitimacy of his wealth and business conduct as Africa’s richest man.
The disputed comments were reportedly made during a televised interview aired on TrustTV on December 17, 2025, in which Mohammed reacted to a petition involving Dr. Farouk Ahmed submitted to the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission. During the broadcast, Mohammed allegedly questioned Dangote’s source of wealth and suggested that the billionaire engaged in questionable activities while in Port Harcourt decades ago.
Dangote’s legal team described the statements as reckless, malicious, scandalous and libellous, insisting they falsely portrayed the businessman as corrupt, monopolistic and vindictive. The letter emphasized that Dangote has never conducted any form of business or wealth-generating activity in Port Harcourt at any time, including the 1980s, as alleged.
The letter further maintained that the accusations were entirely unfounded and calculated to expose Dangote to public ridicule, suspicion and hatred within the international business community, including among governments, partners and associates across countries where his conglomerate operates.
Dangote is demanding that Mohammed publicly explain, on the same media platform and to the same audience, when and how the alleged unclean activities took place. In the absence of verifiable evidence, the businessman is required to fully retract the statements and issue an apology with equal prominence to the original broadcast.
In addition, Dangote is seeking ₦100 billion in damages for reputational harm and public ridicule allegedly suffered as a result of the publication, alongside a written undertaking from Mohammed to refrain from making further defamatory statements.
The letter warned that failure to comply with the demands within seven days would compel Dangote to institute legal proceedings without further notice, including claims for aggravated damages and possible criminal defamation actions.
