The incident, which occurred in broad daylight, triggered panic among travelers and motorists who fled the route for safety. Witnesses stated that the armed group was likely advancing from Zamfara State toward Mashegu Local Government Area, and notably, no security presence was observed during their movement.
A local driver recounted the tense atmosphere, highlighting the lack of any law enforcement response at the time of the sighting.
Confirming the report, Chairman of Mariga Local Government, Abbas Kasuwa Garba, stated that joint security forces had been mobilized to the area to protect vulnerable communities. He also revealed that two local vigilante members who attempted to confront the bandits were killed, while one injured individual is currently receiving medical attention.
Military forces stationed at the Beri camp have since been deployed to counter the threat and secure the region.
Efforts to obtain a formal statement from the Niger State Police Command were unsuccessful, as the Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, could not be reached at the time of filing this report.
