Dr. Obichukwu made this announcement while addressing media reports alleging that parts of the airport lounge were flooded due to inactivity. She refuted these claims, emphasizing that chartered flights already operate at the airport and highlighting the arrival of a flight during a press visit as evidence of its functionality.
“Fortunately, you’ve seen things for yourself. Contrary to social media claims, the airport is fully operational, clean, and unaffected by flooding,” she stated. She further criticized the spread of misinformation, calling for responsible journalism that provides constructive, fact-based critique.
Dr. Obichukwu confirmed that the airport is adhering to regulations set by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), which has approved a one-month commercial operations window starting in June. This pilot phase will allow for full-scale commercial passenger flights.
She noted that United Nigeria Airline will operate flights between Ebonyi and major cities like Lagos and Abuja during this period. Following this one-month phase, further approvals will be sought for expanded operations.
“Airports evolve in phases. You don’t begin full operations overnight,” she explained, stressing that all processes are aligned with the protocols set by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) and the Nigerian Civil Aviation Education and Examination Board (NCEE).
A flight with registration number N989BC landed at the airport during the visit by DAILY POST, underscoring the airport’s readiness for commercial activities.
