Activist Petitions CCB Over N30m Allegedly Collected for Soludo’s APGA Re-election Bid
Anambra State political activist and two-time governorship aspirant, Dr. Ifeanyichukwu Okonkwo, has petitioned the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) to investigate Governor Charles Soludo and three of his aides over an alleged breach of the Code of Conduct for Public Officers.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
In his petition dated April 14, 2025, Okonkwo called for a thorough probe into the acceptance of a N30 million donation by Governor Soludo from over 60 political support groups for the purpose of funding his All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) re-election nomination fee ahead of the November 8 governorship election.
The donation was ceremoniously presented during a rally titled “APGA for Governor Charles Soludo’s Second Tenure” held on April 5, 2025, at the International Conference Centre in Awka. A symbolic cheque of N30 million was handed over to the Governor by the group identified as the All Soludo Support Groups (ASSG), which comprises political appointees, senatorial hopefuls, and other stakeholders.
Dr. Okonkwo, however, alleges that this act represents a clear violation of the constitutional provisions guiding the conduct of public officials. Specifically, he named Commissioner for Finance, Mr. Izuchukwu Okafor; Special Adviser on Political Matters, Dr. Obi Obiogbolu; and Soludo Fans Club leader, Chukwuemeka Julius, as accomplices in the alleged misconduct.
He accused the group of engaging in fraudulent misrepresentation, money laundering, and violating their oath of office by allowing personal interests to interfere with official responsibilities. The petition emphasized that public officials are prohibited from soliciting or accepting any form of gift or benefit tied to the execution of their duties, as outlined in the Fifth Schedule of the 1999 Nigerian Constitution (as amended).
Citing constitutional provisions from both the Fifth and Seventh Schedules, Okonkwo maintained that the act amounted to a conflict of interest and called on the CCB to take swift action in the interest of preserving public trust and the integrity of governance.
Okonkwo noted that Dr. Obiogbolu had described the April 5 rally as a strategic initiative to galvanize support for Soludo’s second term. Similarly, Finance Commissioner Okafor and Soludo Fans Club leader Julius used the platform to praise the Governor’s leadership and development strides, with youth groups also contributing an additional N10.5 million to his campaign.
Reinforcing his stance, Okonkwo referenced the constitutional oaths taken by public officials to prioritize public service over personal gain and appealed to the CCB to uphold the law by investigating and addressing the alleged violations committed by Soludo and his aides.
